This past week I was invited to attend the Marketing and Sales North American Roadshow for Hitachi Energy in Philadelphia, PA. I have been reflecting on this very well organized and information packed 2 days. This is the first post-COVID lockdown meeting I have attended and believe this may well be the way meetings look in a post-COVID world. First and foremost, masks during the meetings or any gatherings for the duration. Second, COVID testing kit as part of the “welcome” bag. Everyone was required to test prior to the beginning of the event. I would also like to add that test kits were available throughout the meeting period upon request. Like most attendees, I tested right before the meeting and 12 hours before my flight home. What I really enjoyed about the meeting was that my colleagues and I were together for the entire day. Our mornings started with breakfast as a group, meetings, then lunch at the hotel and together, and the same for the afternoon and evening. A very effective strategy by the organizing staff rotated table assignments every few hours and at meals so that colleagues were encouraged to meet new colleagues whom they might not have been able to meet given the 40+ attendees. The meeting focused on three theme–sales performance over the past two years, Hitachi Energy’s strategy for the one year, five years, and 10 years, and discussion about how to get from here to there. The meeting also included a few hours where tables competed with each other with solar car kits. Our group also prepared similar solar kits to be distributed through the Girls and Boys Club of Philadelphia. My thanks to Anthony Allard for recognizing the need for having a meeting like this as well as the organizers – Anyes Clark, Kelsey Black, and Lalania Corces. I am sure there are many others to thank. A very well-organized and executed meeting.
