Reconnecting in Dubai: A Surprise Encounter with Xander Hofman
One of the unexpected highlights of my recent trip to Dubai had nothing to do with the skyline or the food scene—it was a familiar name that popped up in my LinkedIn messages: Xander Hofman.
Xander and I worked together for two years at Avery Dennison, and though our paths diverged nearly a decade ago, we stayed loosely connected over the years. As it turned out, we were both in Dubai at the same time. After a few exchanged messages, we decided to catch up over a meal.

Nine Years Later—Still Great Conversation
It had been almost nine years since we last saw each other in person, but the moment we sat down, it felt like no time had passed. We swapped updates on careers, family, and travels—but we also found ourselves reminiscing about our time working together: the projects, the learning curves, the laughs, and the late nights that helped shape both our paths.
These kinds of chance reunions always hit a little differently. They remind us of where we’ve been, who we’ve worked alongside, and how those experiences quietly influence where we are now. And it’s always comforting to see a familiar face across the table, especially when it comes with good food and even better conversation.

The Power of Professional Friendships
Sometimes the professional world feels fast-paced and transactional—but moments like these remind me that the real takeaway isn’t just the work we do, but the people we do it with. Reconnecting with Xander was more than a catch-up; it was a reminder of the value of relationships built through shared effort and mutual respect.
Until Next Time
To Xander—thanks for making time. It was a pleasure to see you again, and I hope it’s not another nine years before we share a table.
And to everyone reading: if you’ve been meaning to reconnect with an old colleague, send that message. You never know what city—or moment—you might have in common again.
